Loretta Lynn - The Definitive Collection
I was introduced to Loretta by KEXP, specifically when she put out the album Van Lear Rose
, produced by Jack White of the White Stripes. That album rocks. Around the same time I saw a movie, Coal Miner's Daughter, about her life. So I have a real respect for her as an authentic country legend.
This is a great collection also. I am impressed by her as a performer and a songwriter. Especially given that she completely bootstrapped her career. I think my favorite on the album is "Coal Miner's Daughter" because I can relate to growing up in a blue collar, less-than-rich family (we didn't have it that bad though). I also like "The Pill" and the fact some other songs dropped in stuff about how the pill has changed the face of womanhood.
